Roofs are the upper covering of buildings which provides protection from sun heat, rain etc. Furtherly roofs are classified in many different types.
Requirement of good roofs:-
1.It should be durable against wind ,rain and sun
2.It should be such that the desireable insulation against sound and heat.It should be well drained.
4.It should be fire resistant.
5.It should be structurraly stable of taking the load
Different types of roofs are:-
1.Single Roofs:- These are those roofs which contains only the rafters which are supported at the ridge and at the eaves.These roofs are used only when the span is limited to only 5metres.
2.Double or Purlin Roofs:- These roofs have two basic elements rafters and purlin.The purlin give intermediate support to rafters.
3.Pitched or Sloping Roofs:- A roof with loping surface is known as a Pitched Roof.Pitched roofs are basically of the following types:-
a.Lean to Roof
b.Hip Roof
c.Gable Roof
d.Gambrel Roof
4.Curved Roofs:- This are the roof which have a curve structure such as domes of mosques and temples etc.
5.Flat Roof:- This are roof are often known as terraced roof.This are the most commonly used roof and is very durable.
